Hotspot in Nigeria

Posted 07/21/11 at 01:58pm

Hotspot Digital recently conducted an evaluation of a multi-million dollar international multi-laterally funded Nigerian domestic election-monitoring program called Project Swift Count (PSC).  PSC conducted a parallel vote tabulation and was funded by the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, which also hired Hotspot to do the evaluation.

At first glance, it might not make sense why Hotspot would be involved in a project that has no clear digital component.  PSC did, in fact, use SMS as the primary method for transmitting data from the field to a central headquarters during elections so technology was a very important part of the project.  However, Hotspot’s interest was broader than that.

International Corporate Volunteerism

Posted 04/14/11 at 10:07am

I’m excited today to be speaking to 140+ representatives of America’s Fortune 500 about the role of new media in corporate volunteerism at an event sponsored by CDC Development Solutions.  I have had the chance to review about 40 of these programs and have been really impressed with the work these companies are doing.  Having spent the last 15 years in and around international development work, I can see obvious opportunities to use new media to support and enrich the work being done through these programs.  I hope that traditional development organizations, the U.S. State Department and USAID are also taking a close look.  For more information, check out the conference agenda here.

What We Believe

Hotspot believes that new technologies make the communications environment for campaigns more competitive than ever before and that to effectively engage in this environment requires a knowledge and understanding of the powerful tools that these new technologies make available.

More importantly, Hotspot believes in the importance of strategy to effectively deploy those tools in the pursuit of campaign goals, such as clarity of message and effective targeting.
